Compaq Presario 1714EA detail

In case someone needs a notebook that has a robust build, it is cheap and can be worked with in all conditions, then we are talking about the Presario 1714EA. Quasar Vm-52ac Battery When Compaq released this laptop it targeted users that were interested in new futuristic designs, in a word would embrace new things. The Presario 1714EA features the same design as the Tiger III 2 Spindle, based on the U2 platform. It has a rugged quality plastic with grey and black finish. The touchpad is rounded; almost oval with the left and right buttons big enough for enhanced usability. Below the touchpad you will also find a four-way navigation button. The keyboard is pretty comfortable, with integrated numeric keypad. The motherboard also has some new features compared to previous Presario models, it is adapted to support the third generation Pentium III CPUs, codenamed Tualatin, released in 2001. This CPU is a Socket 370 processor, with MMX (enhancement for 3D rendering), SSE (just like AMD’s #d Now! technology it improves the performance of many graphic-intensive applications) and the clock rate was around 1000 – 1400 MHz.

So the new CPU is the Intel Pentium III M with enhanced Intel SpeedStep technology, Panasonic Nv-a3 Battery that allows the clock speed of the processor to be dynamically changed by software, something like a built in overclocking; this CPU runs at 1 GHz. There are 256 MB of SDRAM (SODIMM type) installed at 133 MHz, and it can be upgraded to 1 GB. As far as graphics are concerned things are not bright, there is only 8 MB of dedicated DDR memory provided via the ATI Radeon 3D hardware and sadly no further memory upgrade is possible. So there are a lot of things that this PC will not do, like play HD videos or run some 3D games and multiprocessing can tedious as well. But it is just right for word processing and browsing the net, so you can use it as a Canon Es900 Battery mobile office. Audio features an integrated adapter with JBL Pro Audio with Bass Reflex built in speakers.

The display is limited by the poor graphics capabilities and it features a 14.1 inch XGA TFT screen with no extras, 1024 x 768 pixels resolution in 24 bit color is the best it can achieve. The HDD is enough for a “mobile office” notebook, the 20 GB of free space will not hold much multimedia data, but it is enough for personal Canon Ucs2 Battery files and folders. In addition there is a 8x DVD-ROM/CD-W and for the nostalgic an 1.44 (3.5 inch) floppy drive. LAN is provided by a 10/100 Ethernet adapter and a 56 Kbps Mini PCI modem (supports ITU V.90 protocol). They offer a pretty basic networking experience and as you can see there is no wireless capability. Connectivity and expansion feature 2 USB slots, a parallel port, S-video out, VGA port and introduced with this model the IEEE 1394 FireWire port. As default operating system MS Windows XP Home edition is loaded, other preinstalled software: Norton Antivirus, Office 2000. So the Presario 1714EA is among Compaq’s most basic models, but it still can be used today as an office/business PC for text editing and as a mobile/traveler office.
